Handling Control panel Files

Let’s look into the control panel files in windows which has extension .cpl. If you navigate the path c:\windows\system32 you can see all the cpl files. In command mode you can just type dir *.cpl which will list the *.cpl files(Make sure that your present working directory is system32). To use the cpl files just press windows key + R you will get run box, type cpl file name and press enter you will get the respective control panel

appwiz.cpl ==> Application Add and Removal Wizard applet, With this wizard you can uninstall the installed programs and can add additional programs provided by Microsoft and can update the latest patches.

bthprops.cpl ==> Bluetooth Control applet, this applet will open only if the PC have Bluetooth facility

desk.cpl ===> Display Properties control applet, you can change display related settings.

Firewall.cpl ==> by running this cpl file you can get the firewall setting applet and can modify the required settings.

hdwwiz.cpl => Hardware wizard applet, which will take you to the device manager to uninstall or update the required drivers.

igfxCPL.cpl ==> Intel graphics control applet, by running this you can get the Intel Graphics control panel where you can update the graphics settings.

inetcpl.cpl ==> Internet properties, When you need to configure the security level, connections, TLS and SSL properties, clear and delete histories you can just run the applet

intl.cpl ==> Region Applet, by running this, you can change the date formats and region settings, location to sync for date and time etc.,

irprops.cpl ==> Infrared applet. This will help you to change and update the Infrared properties

joy.cpl ==> Games controllers applet.

main.cpl ==> Synaptic Pointing Device applet, by running this cpl, you will get the Mouse properties applet where you could see the settings for buttons, pointer, and its options, wheels, etc

mmsys.cpl ==>Multimedia Applet, which will open the Sound properties wizard, where you can update the recording device, play back devices settings also noise reduction settings.

ncpa.cpl => Network connections Explorer. This cpl will open the network connections explorer window where you can see all the network adapters and can configure those.

powercfg.cpl => Power Options Applet, This will open the applet which contains the Power configuration settings. You can customize you power configuration of the PC based on your requirements.

sysdm.cpl ==> System Properties Applet. This will help you to change your computer name, to add your pc into a workgroup, Domain, system protections, remote connection permissions, configure user profiles, startup and recovery setup etc.,

TabletPC.cpl => Pen and Touch Applet, This will open the touch pen wizard to setup the touch actions equivalent to mouse actions

telephon.cpl ==> Telephone config applet, this will help you to configure the tone and pulse dialing to a specific country with respective codes.

timedate.cpl ==> Date and Time applet, This will open the date/time wizard where you can adjust the date time, and can update the servers to sync, additional clocks and can change the time zone etc.,

wscui.cpl ==> Security and Maintenance applet, this explorer will give you the options to change and maintain the security settings as per your requirement.

The list of cpls provided in the above is for Windows 10, but most of them or common with other windows versions. To get the list of cpl available in your pc please run the dir*.cpl under c:\windows\system32 in command prompt.
